Review: Ellana Minerals Intensive Blend Foundation

Ellana Minerals is one of thse brands that is truly closed to my heart. As I have mentioned in my previous post, my first beauty post was about Ellana. I am thrilled that they are back in the market with a new packaging and pressed products. Honestly, I was never a fan of loose mineral products even that of Ellana. I would always wish that they have foundations in pressed powder forms. I, however, could not resist their intensive blend foundation. Yes, using it is messy. Yes, people would probably get bewildered when I retouch in public with all a tap swirl and buff procedure that I follow strictly (hehe). But hey consider this fact/truth -  Ellana Minerals Intensive Blend foundation has the  best pigmentation and coverage and the finish? Simply poreless and seamless on my rash prone skin.
Compared to their old packaging, their new one looks so sleek and sturdier. The illustration of Soleil made it look more fun! You would also notice that the rim only has one hole. I honestly do not know if they changed their formula but the Intensive Blend Foundation seemed more blendable now.

The Intensive Blend foundation has a medium to slightly heavy coverage. Despite this, it feels light on the skin. It can cover everything sans the use of liquid foundation or even concealer. This looks seamless on me even on flash photography. I also love the fact that it does not highlight the dry patches on my face but it does tend to cake. I use minimal face base than usual whenever I use this foundation. I also go easy on my moisturizer and primer. Too much liquid foundation, moisturizer or even concealer can cause product build up, tremendous creasing and that ugly wrinkly look on my dry skin especially if I apply it prematurely (before my moisturizer or foundation has set).

Application and the right tools are very crucial in applying loose mineral foundation. The tools you use can also determine the coverage you want. For a natural finish, opt for a large and dense powder brush. For a medium to slightly heavy coverage, use a flat top brush or a powder puff. To use as a concealer, of course, a flat concealer brush is a must then apply in a tapping and pressing motion. If you do not have time (like me..), a dense flat top brush is the answer.

Initially I got the shade Caramel Latte and it looks dark on my NC35 skintone. It goes on very yellow and pigmented. When I wore it, it made me look like I had a tan. Then, I got Hazelnut Latte. This shade simply makes my skin glow. It is half a shade lighter than me and it looks like a neutral shade.
Mixed together? Caramel Latte plus Hazelnut Latte is my perfect match.
I suggest you have a mixing bowl to evenly mix the two shades.
The best part about this foundation is its awesome pigmentation and coverage but it feels super light on the skin. NO mask like or tight feel at all. It also gives me that beautiful glow without that flat finish like most powder foundations. No shimmer or highlighter needed. If I want to look extra matte,Ellana's sheer velvet primer is the perfect finishing powder. Staying power is good! My skin looks fresh even after commuting when I used this (ohh take note I have dry skin.. the effect may vary on oil skin). Also, this does not contain parabens or harmful chemicals unlike most foundations in the market. Here are the list of its ingredients:
Mica
C9-15 Fluoroalcohol Phosphates
Titanium Dioxide
Zinc Oxide
Kaolin
Magnesium Stearate
Allantoin
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
Silicone Dioxide
Yellow CI 77492
Red CI 77491
Black CI 77499
Green CI 77288
Blue 77007

The cons?
This is very messy to work with.
It tends to cake and crease especially on the under eye. The right application can help reduce this.

As usual, here are the pictures to prove that it does make my skin look poreless.  :)
If you notice I placed the lighter shade, Hazel Nut Latte on my under eye and under my cheek bones while I placed Caramel Latte on my cheeks or where contour is needed.
Can you see how well it covered my dark circles and how well it filled my pores?

This foundation is veyr affordble it costs 460 pesos for 6grams and its refill costs 330 pesos.

  1. I have dry skin too but I find that this looks bad when I don't properly prep (I never do!) But when I moisturize? WOW! Ganda talaga ng finish. And it looks even better as the day wears on! Or maybe it's 'cause I get oilier, haha.

  2. I love the coverage of this powder foundation. It's even better than some of the thick liquid foundations I've tried, yet this one feels so light. :D
