Makeup Battle: Skindinavia The Makeup Finishing Spray Review vs. L'Oreal Makeup Extender Setting Spray Review

Thank you to those who read my last makeup battle post (and sana may nag enjoy) . I truly enjoyed reading through your comments. I think this makeup battle series will be a permanent feature on my blog. I am that kind of person who would spend hours researching about a particular product before buying them. I know being a makeup junkie or beauty enthusiast makes us impulsive shoppers more often than not. But wait, wag kayong papadala agad agad!! hihi Make sure to research on products. On this post, I will featuring two setting sprays. One from the high end and the other from the drugstore.

I am not an avid fan of setting sprays. The last setting spray that I have used up to the very last drop was the MAC Fix Plus. I never saw any difference aside from the fact that it removed the powdery or cakey effect of the foundation on my skin. I have also tried the setting spray, Model in a Bottle and I did not like it at all. I had that years ago. When I got married last December, I felt the need to buy a setting spray that could make my makeup last the whole day. In case you did not know, I did my own makeup on my wedding (proud ako dun char!!!!). Here is the link to my wedding makeup, I listed all the products I used plus photos of my face (magsawa kayo. lels):
http://www.mylucidintervals.com/2015/12/my-wedding-makeup-products-i-used-photos.html

** Brief background on my skin type: I have dry sensitive skin. I am currently suffering from psoriasis flare ups and I have dry patches on different parts of my face.

On the Left Corner: SKINDINAVIA THE MAKEUP FINISHING SPRAY (BRIDAL)
Ingredients
Water (Aqua), Alcohol Denat, PVP, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Ethylhexyl Isononanoate, Isononyl Isononanoate, Sodium Cocamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Dimethicone PEG-7 Phosphate, Caprylyl Glycol, Glycereth-5 Lactate, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, PPG-3 Benzyl Ether Myristate, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance (Parfum), Methyl Diisopropyl Propionamide, Poloxamer 407.

I got this from Digital Traincase (http://www.dtcmakeup.com/) and it costs 1,450. I got it primarily because of the tag/variant "bridal" on the packaging and a lot of MUA friends recommended this. This has a very fine mist, paraben free and does have a subtle scent. It never irritated my skin. It is very lightweight and does not leave any sticky or greasy feel after spraying. It did set my makeup very well and could withstand the humid weather of MNL. I love that it keeps my base makeup particularly my concealer, blush and bronzer intact for hours. It instantly removes  the powdery or cakey effect of makeup on my dry skin. Due to its mildness (sa skin ko ahh), I can use this as a base primer before applying my primer, foundation etc. but most of the time I used it  as a setting spray (or post makeup finishing spray).
Skindinavia Finishing Spray review

Skindinavia Finishing Spray
Apply this on a X or T formation. I do not apply it this way. I just spray with 2-3 spritz all over my face. It says to deliver a luminous finish and it gives off a nice but very slight radiance on the skin. Nothing too luminous in my case. It kept my foundation intact even on the nose area and chin where I tend to lose foundation/powder by mid day. It did lessen my touch ups through out the day.
Skindinavia Finishing Spray
As you can see, the mist is very fine. This is probably on of the reasons why I love it very much.

On the right corner: L'Oreal Makeup Extender Setting Spray
Ingredients: 896788 3 AQUA / WATER / EAUALCOHOL DENAT.PVPDIMETHICONE PEG-7 PHOSPHATEPHENOXYETHANOLPOLYHYDROXYSTEARIC ACIDISONONYL ISONONANOATEPPG-3 BENZYL ETHER MYRISTATEPOLOXAMER 407ETHYLHEXYL ISONONANOATESODIUM BENZOATESODIUM COCAMIDOPROPYL PG-DIMONIUM CHLORIDE PHOSPHATEPOTASSIUM SORBATEALOE BARBADENSIS / ALOE BARBADENSIS LEAF JUICELIMONENELINALOOLPARFUM / FRAGRANCE
L'Oreal Makeup Extender Setting Spray
I got this when L'oreal had their buy 2 get 1 balm or eyeshadow for free. This only costs 500 pesos. I know there are other drugstore makeup sprays in the market but I chose this because I love the L'oreal Infallible Foundation (US Version). I have high hopes on this product. I immediately tested it the next day upon purchase. It gave me that subtle and noticeable glow. It made my skin look a bit dewy but giving off that healthy skin vibe. It made my shimmery blush radiate on my cheeks and made skin look less dry than usual. I initially road tested it on a rainy day, and by mid day, my bronzer, blush and concealer are still intact. This feels lightweight and not greasy on my dry skin.

I was not sold so I tested it during humid and sunny days and it was such a let down. On my succeeding use, this product stung my face especially on my dry patches. (Akala ko ba dermatologist tested??Or pwede rin na nag inart lang ang skin ko that time). I noticed that my tzone particularly my nose area and those around my mouth started to cake and I eventually had to retouch.
L'Oreal Makeup Extender Setting Spray
Also, on my succeeding use of the product, the mist was not fine at all!! Look how huge the droplets of this spray are!!! It made my skin soaking wet after 2-3 mist and I had to face the electric fan or fan my face to speed up the drying process. I could only use this as setting spray or post makeup spray.
L'Oreal Makeup Extender Setting Spray
The Verdict?
SKINDINAVIA WINS!!!!!

Whether it is rainy or sunny, the Skindinavia setting spray works perfectly. It sets my makeup beautifully giving my skin a smooth and seamless finish. It also extends the longevity of my makeup especially my concealer, blush and powder. Whenever I use this spray, I barely retouch throughout the day. The mist is very fine too and does not sting nor irritate my face.

As for the L'oreal Makeup extender, it is way cheaper than the SKindinavia, however, the mist is quite a let down because it delivers huge droplets on my face. I can only use it during cooler days because it can not withstand the humid weather of MNL. I also disliked the fact that it stings my face and it takes a while to dry. I really like the fact that this setting sprays gives me that healthy luminous glow getting rid of the powdery effect of makeup on my skin.

I wanted to post photos of me wearing these sprays to show you their effect on me, sadly,  my camera could not capture the difference.

P.S. This post is based on my personal experience with the use of the product. The effect of both products may vary on your skin.

What setting spray do you use?
I want to try other drugstore setting sprays, do you have any recommendations?

Godbless

  1. I do not have any idea on how to choose the right finishing spray for me. Thanks to you for sharing your thoughts about both sprays. I guess, I should search for more tips to find out which one will suit me.

    1. There are new variants for MAC Fix Plus and I also want to try that :) Saw the one with coconut ingredient being featured by Desi Perkins in her youtube channel. :)

    2. That's a big help. Thank you so much. :D Will try it soon!

  2. I love this new segment! I really like looking for drugstore dupes for high-end products, or even basically just finding new rave-worthy products I didn't know existed before. I know the feeling about having really big drops of mist coming out from the nozzle! I DIY-ed a setting spray from glycerin and water, and it works well enough but the spray bottle I had sucks so I literally would look like a sweaty mess because there are big lumps of liquid on my face. :) I've been looking for a heavy-duty setting spray to invest in, and Skindinavia has been a very popular suggestion. Between this and the MAC Fix plus, which do you like better? :)

    1. Hello Emily!! I am an avid user of Glycerine and Water years ago but I never used it to set my makeup. I only used it to intensify the colors of eyeshadows. Between skindinavia and Mac, I love SKindinavia for setting my skin if I want to lengthen or seal my makeup throughout the day. MAC is great for keeping my skin hydrated and to intensify highlighters and eyeshadow pigments.

    2. Ohhhh that's good to know! :) But since I'm not really well-versed about highlighters and eyeshadow pigments yet, I should probably stick to Skindinavia! Thank you for the recommendation! :) People with oily skin like me have also attested to its prowess, so I guess it's really worth the hype! :)

  5. I'm currently using Evian facial mist and it's my HG mist as of the moment. I love how it gives me that dewy finish despite of the flat matte finish of my foundation. I should go try the Skindinavia and save money for it. Thanks for your review.

  6. I haven't tried any Makeup Setting Spray walang pambili haha. Mas mahal pa sya sa baon ko. Anyways, post mo nalang po sa IG nyo yung photo wearing the Skindinavia and Loreal setting spray.

  7. Hindi talaga maiiwasan na kapag mura of course don't expect too much, syempre if youre wise buyer dun ka na sa mahal pero quality at maayus ang performance making it as good investment. In my part, I still haven't tried any setting spray kasi beginner pa lang ako sa pag gamit ng make up, as in incomplete pa ko sa mga make up.
About po sa review nyo nato, well at least pag dumating yung time na marunong naku mag make up may idea naku kung anong setting spray ang maganda gamitin:) thanks for this info :) God bless and more power!

  10. I love your review. I use Benefit porefessional to keep my face from getting really oily especially around midday and also to keep my makeup longer. It works well enough. I still blot now and then but other than that, I am happy enough with the result. I haven't used a setting spray so can't say for sure if it would really make a difference. I'm thinking of buying NYX matte setting spray as it is a lot cheaper than most and has been reviewed and approved by Wayne Goss :-)

  11. SKINDINAVIA it is! At least now alam ko na ang susubukan ko kapag ready na ako magtest ng setting spray but first! matutunan muna ang make up basics hehehe ^_^ Salamat sa blogs mo DonnaRence

  12. Have you tried using NYX setting spray? Based from what I can remember, you did a DIY setting spray din?

  13. I like this segment! 🙂 More to come please. Di ko tuloy alam kung talagang maganda ba to or what. Thank you for the honest review ms. Donnarence! 🙂 Di ako familiar sa brand na Skindinavia. Ngayon ko lang siya narinig.

  14. I never really thought that mists prevents foundations from caking or at least lessen its appearance. Super late bloomer na ata ako and napaghahalataan na beginner (in mind and in skills) huhu. I thought it is just intended to make skin look moisturized, dewy like Koreans. Haha! As of now, I think I could afford Loreal pero yung Skindinavia? Soon when I can work on my own because I'm still stuck on my meager student budget. I looked for reviews dun sa Loreal Setting Spray. I saw some on IG and they are gushing about it. Medyo na-disappoint ako kasi obvious naman na baka average lang siya since the droplets are kinda big and it would really make your face wet even with just one pump. I love it that so far, you are the only one I know of that shows the spritzing motion on your review which makes it more credible for us consumers. Thank you for that, Ms. D! Looking forward for more comparison reviews!

  17. I'm glad you made this segment. Kasi napakaraming beauty products and brands na pagpipilian and ang hirap mamili kung ano ba dapat gamitin at yung babagay sa skin type mo. This segment of yours is a big help.

Very basic. I'm glad to follow your blog. It can help me a lot on exploring the beauty junkie inside me. :) Yay!

    1. Personally I do not suggest it for everyday wear just like primer. Feeling ko nakakaclog ng pores. :) Retouch na lang every now and then hihi

  20. Hi Donna,
You need to try Mario Badescu Rose Water Spray. It does not seal the makeup though but like Fix +, it is good in prepping your skin for makeup and leaves a healthy glow once sprayed after your makeup application. For only 450 Pesos, it is worth a try. I love it so much but for a good makeup extender, Urban Decay De-Slick and All Nighter SEALS THE DEAL! :)
