My Lucid Intervals

Hi everyone. I am curently stuck in Cagayan Airport waiting for my delayed flight to Manila. Instead of whining over this fact, I decided to blog. :) Okay.. Since I am into bronzers and contouring, I have been meaning to do a post about wet method of contouring. One of the things I have learned from Makeup School is the difference between dry and wet method of contouring. Dry method of contouring comes after base makeup application. This means that you have finished applying corrector, foundation, concealer and setting powder. The products used are primarily powdered ones. This method is the easiest and the fastest method to do. You can do it while inside your car, airplane or elsewhere. Wet Method of contouring, on the other hand, come before the setting powder. So the process of application will be corrector, foundation, concealer, bronzer and setting powder. In this method, products to be used are made of cream and liquid. You are not necessarily confined to using bronzers or contouring products per se. I personally love using cream or liquid foundations or concealers that are two to three shades darker than my skin tone for a more natural effect. Try to skip those with shimmers for an au naturel look.

On this post, I used SUESH Concealer in C225. This product is very affordable and only costs 100 pesos This is very creamy and the texture is very blendable. I got the darkest shade and it works very well with my medium yellow skin.

For highlighting, I use my Graftobian Concealer/Corrector wheel. This is very pigmented, creamy and compared to that of Suesh's , you just need a tiny amount of the product to cover certain areas of your face. The colors can be mixed as well.

I used the light yellow shade for Highlighting.

Contouring and highlighting can definitely enhance once features. It can make your cheekbones pop and can give you that glow sans the shimmer. The basic principle of contouring and highlighting:

You highlight features of your face that you want to bring forward which refers to forehead, cupid's bow, bridge of the nose, areas under the cheek bone, temples, under eye, brow bone and chin.

You contour features to change their shape like you can make your nose appear more aquiline or you can turn a round face to a slimmer one. The purpose of contouring is to add depth or shadow and even sculpt your facial feature that will either decrease their prominence or change their shape. Areas that must be contoured are: cheek bones, area under the lip, nose, jaw line and crease.

I made a map out of my face to let you see the areas I highlighted and contoured. Since it is summer, I love the bronzed effect, so I sweep the bronzer all over my hairline to add color on my face and to make it apear smaller. Contouring and highlighting largely depends on your face shape. As for me, my face tend to look round with a hint of diamond feature in it. I love contouring my jaw line and having that fake cheek bones because mine is not really noticeable.

Make sure you blend out everything to make it look seamless! I used my Canmake Cheek Brush for blending everything.

Set your makeup with a setting powder. In this picture, I used a lighter shade of foundation to set the highlighted areas. I used the Pixy Foundation while I set the contoured areas with Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer.For lipstick, I used the Revlon Lacquer Balm in Ingenue.

I can still remember the moment when I discovered my fondness on bronzers.

It all started during my pictorial for my law school graduation. Of course, I did my

own makeup and I went a little cray cray contouring my face.

I was a bit worried with the turn out of the picture but when I saw the

shots I was in awe with the slimming effect of bronzer on my face which

I used as a contour powder and also to warm up my face. Lo and behold,

My face does not look flat anymore. I also achieved that healthy glow.

From then on, I have been a huge fan of matte bronzers

(specifically, anytthing with shimmer highlights my recurring rashes).

For years, I can not find a decent bronzer that is locally available. I have been an

avid user of ELF DUO Bronzer for years. Then, I learned to use brown

shadows primarily for contouring. Thereafter, I found the NYX

Matte bronzer which I eventually grew tired of after hitting pan for

incessantly using it for months. When I learned that my cousin is coming

home last March, I asked her to buy me the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer

since I have been hearing raves about this in youtube. I was actually

torn with this and The Balm’s Bahama Mama (which is always out of stock). Okay..

After my long kwento, let’s head on to my review. hihi

This bronzer is quite big. It is almost as big as my palm. The gold packaging also looks so

luxurious(a far cry from my NYX Bronzer Compact).

It does not feel heavy at all but the compact really feels sturdy. Before having a chance to play with this bronzer, my mom was telling

me of its sweet scent. I ended up sniffing it and It does smell good. Haha It has a

subtle mocha scent which is not too overpowering.

I got the shade for medium to deep skin tone. I was expecting it to be darker but it looks

light brown on the pan. It does not have any hint of red or orange in it.

The color looks warm and not muddy. I was really skeptical on the shade because

I have that fear that it will not show up on my medium yellow skin tone.

When I tried it, the color is just right on my face. It does not look harsh nor fake on my skin.

It creates that right amount of depth/shadow on my face when used

as a contour powder. Due to its warm light brown color, I also use this as a bronzer.

I dust it over my hair line and even spread it all over the sides of my face and under my cheeks.

I also sweep it over my cheeks whenever I feel that my foundation makes me look too

Morticia Adams-ish. The product is very blendable and buildable.

It is not streaky nor patchy at all. It applies smoothly on the skin and it looks

very natural in person and looks good in pictures.

It has a nice velvety and smooth texture which makes it very easy to blend.

The Good:

1. The packaging is great. The mirror is really big and you get a lot of product.

2. The color is perfect. It is neither muddy nor does it have that unnatural reddish tone to it.
I got the darkest shade and it looked light on the pan. I was honestly worried when I saw the
color because it looks lighter than my NYX Matte Bronzer. The first time I used it I did
not see the difference at all so, I went back to NYX bronzer. On my second try,
I tried lightly applying the bronzer with a brush made of natural bristles while slowly
building up the color and I saw that it creates the most natural shadow on my face.
Despite the fact that it is buidable, it can never create that exaggerated contoured
or sculptured look.
3. It acts as a bronzer for warming up my face and as a contour powder. It looks seamless
and flawless when applied.

4. The bronzer is very easy to blend.

5. It is buildable.

6. It lasts 4 - 5hours on me.

7. It does not cake nor create that weird streaks or patches on my skin when
I try to build up the color.

8. The longer it stays on my face, the more natural it looks.

9. It has a lot of product and since it is pigmented enough, a little goes a long way.

The Bad:

1. Limited shades. There are only two shades available and I doubt if the color will show up on

darker skin tones.

2. Not locally available. There are limited online shops that offer this product

3. I consider this a high end product. Everything that goes beyond one thousand is high end to me. Price: 30$

I love this bronzer right now.. It beats Nars Laguna and Urban Decay’s Flushed Palette by a point o two.
The shade looks perfect on my skin tone too.

NYX Matte Bronzer in Deep

Out of utter desperation in search for The Balm's Bahama Mama Bronzer, I ended up buying this Matte bronzer at Digital Traincase because the latter was not and is still not available at any beauty bar counters. I think I bought this for only 330-350 pesos (preorder). From the time I learned the wonders of contouring, I was always in the look out for the best matte bronzer out there sans the reddish tones. I bought this due to its very affordable price and based on a US blogger review. I really wanted a matte brown color without a slightest hint of shimmer to achieve that model-esque cheek bones.

There are 5 shades of this product and I chose Deep which is a deep cool brown.

I love the packaging of this bronzer. Surprisingly, the glossy black compact looks very posh with a high end touch. The huge mirror is a major plus. The compact is almost as huge as my palm. Whoa!!! That's a lot of product don't you think?

Deep has a neutral tones to it and does not appear orangey on me. It looks natural on my medium yellow skin tone without looking muddy at all. This bronzer has a soft texture. It glides smoothly when applied. A light hand is very much needed because of its high pigmentation. Despite its intense color, the product does not create patches on my cheeks once applied nor did it cake. The color is buildable too. I observed that this bronzer tends to be a bit powdery which I do not mind at all. It does not last that long even on my dry skin, the maximum would be 3-4 hours without primer underneath. There is a need to retouch through out the day. Sadly, this is not available locally but online shops offer a great deal on this bronzer. I really think that this bronzer looks very photogenic and naturally creates depths and shadows on my face.

How do I apply this bronzer?
I apply it with my Virginia Olsen Sculpting Brush in a "3" shape on the sides of my face and underneath my unnoticeable cheek bones. I also apply underneath my chin area to achieve that oval shaped face.

This is how the bronzer looks like on me. I only applied it on the right side of my face and at the upper portion of my nose bridge between my brows. The color looks natural on me eh?

For contouring, I used my ELF bronzer in the ELF blush/bronzer Duo.

If you are looking for an affordable matte bronzer, NYX Matte Bronzer is truly worth a try. Will I buy again? No. I am now saving for a Benefit Hoola or my long time lemming (The Balm's Bahama Mama).

I lived in a country where most people have a weird perception of beauty. Most think that fair skinned women are more beautiful than those with golden skin. Tisays (fair skinned women) are in while Morenas are out. This is the reason why I freakin' want to be fairer! Younger, I have this habit of buying whitening products from soap to lotions. I have tried papaya soaps and glutathione before. Uhmm.. nothing worked. :p
This post is for my reader Gly Lee. Thank you for requesting this one and for supporting my blog!! I am not a professional makeup artist. I will try to share my thoughts on bronzers and how to apply them.

Back in college, I was really interested in trying bronzers. I could still remember my first bronzer was from Palladio. It was a shimmery one with a hint of red in it. When I used it, oh my!!! I literally looked like a paso (a garden clay pot!) I looked dirty and muddy and the bronzer looked so unnatural on my skin. After using that bronzer, I never tried any bronzer until now. Choosing the right shade of bronzer is very important. The no. 1 rule is you must choose a shade that looks natural on your skintone. You want to look sunkissed not sunburnt.If you are using your bronzer to contour your face, choose a shade a shade or two shades darker than your skintone. Those with brown tones looked more natural on most skin tones. Those with orange or red tones looked so fake on me. I like using matte bronzers more than shimmery ones since the latter tends to highlight my rashes. I use my shimmery bronzers on the apples of my cheek for that nice glow. I think those with golden sheen are very versatile and can be used by most skin tones. Another thing you should consider is your skin type. There bronzing lotions, liquid, cream, pressed powders and loose ones too. I am more into the pressed powder forms. It is easier to use, easier to manipulate the amount of product and to blend. I like using my Marionnaud Angled Brush in applying my bronzer to contour my face.

Apply your bronzers where the sun naturally hit your face. I use my matte bronzers. Start by applying your bronzers lightly on your face then apply more to build your desired color. I use matte bronzers for contour. Sometimes, I use it as a blush too depending on the makeup that I do for the day. I applied it on my hairline, jawline, underneath the apples of my cheek to the temple, and some on my clavicle (collar bone) to define my face. And to lessen the roundness of my face!! hihi Then I applied my shimmery bronzer on the apples of my cheek. See how it made my skin glow. (and sweaty!! eww.. hahaha)

For contour: ELF Studioline Duo Powder Bronzer (i love this one) I applied it using my Marionnaud Angled Brush.
For that golden sheen: I use my Moi cosmetics 42 blush
and eyeshadow palette. I applied it with the use of my Ecotools Kabuki brush.

I bet your wondering why I looked a bit tan on the pictures. I mixed my foundation with a darker cream foundation from James Cooper Jazzy Compact Cream Photogenic Foundation (wheeeww.. quite a long name noh??) and I added a lot of Maybelline Mineral Powder Bronzer to create that beautiful sheen on my face and neck.

Another tip: If you are sporting the shimmery bronzer, try using a matte lipstick or matte eyeshadow so as not to look like a discoball. hihi..
