City Color Contour Effects 2 Review

I finally got this City Color contour palette from BeautyMNL. I have been seeing this palette online and I got even more curious when I saw how big it is. This palette costs 450 pesos and is housed in a cardboard packaging. It locks through magnetic lock. This palette has 3 shades: contour, bronze and highlight. The pan sizes of this palette is huge. Sulit na sulit kumbaga. It came with a manual or detailed instruction on how to use the palette like where to bronze, contour and highlight. The cardboard packaging is slim and very lightweight. My only complaint with the packaging is the lack of a mirror.

This is the second version of this palette and I am assuming the shades are darker compared to the first version. Oh don't quote me on this because I maybe 99.99% wrong. Aviva, a long time reader of mine, commented on my Beauty MNL post that the shades look red on the pan. Luckily, the shades are not reddish at all. :) The palette contains three shades - for bronzing, for contouring and for highlighting. I am not all entirely strict with the idea of contouring and bronzing, hence, anything brown and perfect for shading can be use either way.  In other words, basta pumayat ang fez ko pwede. hehe

For reference, here is the shade description:

The contouring shade is a deep cool toned brown that has silver specks. Panira ang silver specks n the pan but once applied it is not noticeable at all (or pwede ring hindi ko siya masyado natitigan). I love how this shade contours my nose very naturally. Now, I am convinced that contouring with cool tones is way better than a regular brown shadow. I am now officially scrapping the idea that anything brown can work well for both contouring and bronzing.

The bronzer is a warm medium brown which looks perfect on my medium yellow skintone. It looks very natural on me and gives me my face a much needed warmth. This has no shimmers whatsoever.

The highlighter comes in a pearly white shade. This needs much blending because it looks gritty when applied due to the shimmers. In pictures/photos, this looked really good! Please refer to the photo below.

This contouring palatte is very pigmented. Just one-two dabs on each powder is/are enough to contour/bronze/ or highlight a specific area of the face. The downside is this powder does not really long on me despite having dry skin. Also, this palette is very powdery, There are a huge amount of fall outs on the pan once you swirl your brush on the product. Despite these, the powders are smooth and very blendable. Well, except on the contour powder which needs extra effort on the blending to prevent patchiness.

For the price of 450 pesos, this palette is a good deal because it already contains three shades and the size of each color is comparable to a normal size pan of bronzer/contour/highlighter.

Here are a few photos on how the shades looked when applied on my skin.
In this photo, I used the bronzer as a bronzer and contour powder in one. It looks very natural on my skin and does not look muddy on me.
On this photo, I used the contour powder and highlighter. Look how beautiful the highlighter looks on my skin. The contour powder also did a great job in slimming down my face, don't you think?

That's it! Overall, this palette is a good buy. I highlight recommend to those who are new to contouring/strobing or to those who want to practice their contouring and highlighting skills.

  1. Oh, good to know it isn't reddish at all. In the photo without highlighter, it looks barely noticeable, like "is that contour powder, or was she born with it?" Hahahahahahaha! Now I wanna buy this!

  2. Looks like a good buy! I've seen this around everywhere, too!

  3. That highlight is beautiful! I'm running out of contour/highlight powder and I'm listing this as an option. :)

  4. this looks great on you! I havent seen this anywhere in the UK but if I do so it I will defo have to try it thanks to this post! :)

  5. Ang ganda tingnan ng highlighter! But when I apply it on myself, halata eh. Ang harsh ng pagka-white. Hehe..

    1. Blending is the key. pero it looks gritty talaga kaya konti lang pag apply

  6. Your makeup looks cakey po

    1. Thanks for noticing. :) I was trying out a new foundation combo sa first photo.. Tapos dry skin pako.. :S Very well noted :) I forgot to use facial mist kaya hello cake.. hehe

    2. At concealer combo.. realized Nars Radiant Creamy concealer is too drying for my undereyes :( Godbless

  7. I wonder if the City Color contour powder (single) works just as well as this one. I don't want to buy highlighters anymore, ang tagal maubos ng isa.

  8. This is pretty palette and affordable too. Though the truth is I don't have a single contour palette in my stash.Til now I don't have the courage to try how to contour and may be nanghihinayang lang ako bumili kasi baka I end up not using it. Haha. But who knows one day I will:) This is a great product to try.
